There's an unspoken rule in art, and it's that when you're done, you're done. Otherwise you'll be touching it up forever.
Unfortunately I do no follow this rule. After receiving some constructive critism I decided to go back and redo my first ever Amalgamation Universe render with some touch ups.
I fixed some of the lighting and posing issues that were commented on and replaced the shotty Commander Shepard amour with an actual commander Shepard model (ripped from game) and decided to centre him. After all I do think of Commander Shitface to be the Captain Murica of the Vindicates, because of his leadership skills and the confusion of whether or not he's superhuman or not lol. I also added in way more Xenomorphs and messed around with the fog AND composited the image using Blender's compositor.
You can still view the old version here
Made using Blender and Photoshop.
I created the scenery and the planet in the background, used a wallpaper for the stars and the models I downloaded then rigged and I pretty much modified all of them... notice I redesigned the ironman and Samus is glowing, etc.
It makes sense that this should be my FIRST post here, because this was the image. This is what made me say "okay, I'm gonna do this. If I can make this, I can make the comic I want too make," it's one of my first ever renders.
Now for the story behind this...
This is set in a universe which all manner of other fictional universe exist as one, from Marvel to DC, to all or at least most of the Sci-Fi’s you know and love, and even fantasy worlds with medieval settings, magic and weaponry.
When I created this I imagined it was set roughly in the 2100 or 2200's from a story arch revolving Earth and her colonies, sometime after both the Flood and Reapers have been defeated (note that in this universe they had a connection and showed up at roughly the same time), the United Earth Government has finally seen the need to establish a “response” group to deal with crisis out of ordinary humans control, similar to the days of old where costumed heroes would battle threats no normal human could, catastrophic events have brought fourth the need for enhanced or specially talented humans to join forces once again and defend humanity…
So when a distress signal was picked up from LV-426 (planet from the first & second aliens movie) a response team from this group was sent out to investigate the cause of the signal.
This team consisted of:
-Commander Shepard of the UEG Navy.
-Isaac Clarke, an Engineer and survivor of the first Necromorph encounter/infection.
-Master Chief Petty Officer John-117, the most accomplished Spartan/augmented human of the UEGA’s Navy
-Rhodey Stark, a genius descendant of one of the greatest avengers who ever lived: marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Rhodey_S…
(her armour looks different because I wanted it too/modified it)
-Samus Aran, a biologically enhanced product of a private paramilitary organisation known as the galactic federation (cannon for this universe)
As you can see, the mission is not going well for them, on the plus side they may of found the cause of the distress signal…
Note that this was concept art, the actual story and universe has developed in my mind since I made this and circumstances change, though I definitely plan on visiting LV-426 with the Vindicates one day.
EDIT: since posting about the concept of this universe it has come to fruition and developed a lot, here's one example, it has it's own galaxy map:
Please checkout my gallery if you wish to know more, it's organised nice and neatly so you shouldn't get lost. Comics are available under the title "Vindicates #1/2/3 etc" in there own folder to the left.
Anyway, The background is really cool looking, but the background planet looks very flat. It should either be brighter because it's catching the sun that is shining on the other side of the planet (much like our moon) or much darker with a lighting around the edge if it's eclipsing the sun.
For the characters, I have two suggestions:
First, Isaac, Shepard, and Master Chief are all in nearly identical poses, which makes them look a little mundane. Throw some variety into their stances.
Second is Samus. Her lighting is way too bright for how dark the other characters are and she is very deistracting, taking about about a third of the horizontal space. I didn't even notice Isaac in the image until I read the description and went back to look. I would suggest slimming up her silhouette a bit (a more vertical stance) and maybe moving her off center, and then letting her light reflect off of the other characters and the xenomorphs to help them stand out more. Also, that green light showing off of all of the xenomorphs would look pretty sweet.
I hope this helps
anyway keep the good work.
Ohhh!!! I am excited about it!
You see, is really difficult to me to find someone with cool ideas more than mere Ponies, TF2 or whatever people now at days likes, I am not getting tired neither I am bittered but I am a lil bit disappointed, so I thank you for the stuff you create man, is original and fresh and I like that!
As how Viceral Games got inspired from The Blob, Half-Life, Alien, Resident Evil, etc. to create Dead Space!
As how Marvel got inspired from Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, Kaliman, etc. to create The Mighty Hulk!
As how Makoto Kano got inspired from H. R. Giger, Alien, Dariom Argento, etc. to create Metroid!
Everything is fine and original when you follow a source of inspiration more than stoling.
seriously though is it a good improvement from the original?
This is my flagship on this page but there are plenty of other related works and even comics telling this story
Duuuude! This is awesome ♡♡♡ I LOVE evrything about this! The darkness, the rare neon colours and the Action in a still image! I could write a 600 page vook about why i love this piece! But like with all pieces, it has flaws. The lighting is a bit off and it would be better to stick with ONE main colour like blue and make the green lighting more visible
Other then that, Its truly a masterpiece!~
It needs an update from what I've learned since, perhaps I'll remember to reply to this when I've done that to get you to check it out again
Also the comic is up, check the bottom of the description or just go to my gallery, they're all in individual folders to the left
they're nothing special it's just that you don't have the same amount of firepower in that game as a marine would to take em down
the team does though. And they're all badasses who have saved the universe or the galaxy a few times at least haha.
