I recreated some elements of his background in my own but I matte painted it all myself (my first time too), the other version was originally just supposed to be a an example of what I was going for but arbiter690 liked it so much I decided to show it as well.

Oro 'Varamee was born in the ever dwindling state of Varam located on the Sangheili homeworld of Sangheilos in 2118. Oro and his entire family have dedicated their efforts to not only maintaining their honor and protecting their people, but also seek the means to regain much of their lost honor and status. The Varam keep hopes to ensure that the ancient oaths sworn by their clan upon the foundation of the Covenant aren't forsaken. Oro has taken it upon himself to complete his clans mission, and figured the best way for him to go about this was by taking small steps towards this goal. His ambition knows no bounds though as he hopes that through his efforts he will be able to pull the Covenant away from the conflict and corruption that is tearing it apart. He believes that the Covenant is forsaking it's most ancient oaths and promises and so would like to see it resume the holy path of the great journey peacefully.
First, he enlisted into the Covenant Military where he was somehow noticed by the Ministry of Fervent Intercession and became a Zealot, then slowly he rose to command a mighty force of the finest warriors which will not only help the Covenant on its path but ensure his clan's survival and redemption within the Covenant.
Oro was a strong commander who succeeded in many of his attempts to gain power and glory, as a Zealot Shipmaster he made a big difference in some of the Covenants largest military victories. He was close to completing his goal after acquiring a heavy load of Forerunner and Prothean treasures aboard his ship that would make his clan more powerful than ever before, but fate had other plans, for he was captured by Cerberus whilst intercepting a call for help by a Kig-Yar Frigate with the goods on board. Both ships, crew, and contents were all taken to separate Cerberus facilities for research. As Cerberus scientists were already undergoing the basic studies of Covenant species along with other alien races they noticed something very strange about Sangheili physiology, they theorized that the species may be able to utilize biotic abilities much like a human, krogan, and even Asari could despite there claims that they couldn't. The experiments on Oro became more brutal and painful until they achieved what they sought and unfortunately for Oro any thoughts of ending his own life like other Sangheili in order to keep his honor intact was now swept away like the desert winds on Sangheilos. He knew that while it's important to maintain his will and mind he along with other prisoners must escape the research facility before they all succumb to the humans' schemes. Oro accomplished this with the other prisoners by escaping through a supply ship and yet it had cost many lives to even reach the halfway point. The escape proved to be a great success with many other Covenant prisoners such as Oro's newly made Jiralhanae friend Varkous, some human scientists as their own prisoners, gathered information on some Cerberus activities along with basic information about the organization, and the liberation of a few stolen Forerunner relics which was enough to stave off the execution of Oro and the returning prisoners. Oro's time in the Cerberus research facility not only became a driving force for his quest for vengeance upon Cerberus, but caused many seeds of doubt about the humans, the war, and the Covenant itself and these will remain with Oro for a very long time. For now he must retain his usefulness to the empire and do whatever he must to save his clan, newly acquired allies, and the Covenant itself while retaining his honor in the process.
